I don’t know about you but I have always loved to read. You can always find books on my nightstand. It started when I was a little girl and has continued all through my life. My dad was an avid reader, even a speed reader (yes I’m jealous) as a result, I probably get my love of reading from him. He always had 2 or 3 books he was reading at the same time and went to the library almost every week. So, what’s on your nightstand?
What about you? Do you enjoy reading? What categories do you like to read? I think with today’s technology subsequently people spend much more time on their social media sites like Facebook and Pinterest and less time seeing people in person, enjoying the great outdoors and reading. I think social media is great but I wonder how many people have stepped away from actually reading a book or good article.
I’m not stuck on one type of subject. For me I enjoy reading such a variety of topics. As a result my library includes Fiction and Non-Fiction. I have quite a large library of books which I thoroughly enjoy. There is a constant need to repurpose my books and as a result have donated over 400 books to the local library over the years. I believe in giving back and there were many books that I have read several times and it was time for them to have a new home. My library still has 100 or so books and will always have books to choose from. I can’t imagine not reading.
What books are on your nightstand
Some of my favorite categories are health, mystery, and suspense. However, I enjoy poetry, short stories, arts and crafts, health, cooking, history, science, actually I’ll read almost anything. LOL. I guess there is not a subject I have not touched on over the years.
Imagine going to your bookcase. You study all the books lined up on the shelves. What sounds exciting to you right now? You decide you are looking for a challenge, a puzzle to put together as you read. There on the shelf you see the perfect book. Do you feel the excitement? The book practically jumps off the shelf into your hands. Just the touch of the book itself invites you to open up the pages and immerse yourself in the story. That big comfy chair is calling you. You settle in and turn to page 1. The mystery is about to begin…..
Reading is such a great way to learn about anything. It keeps your mind strong and asking questions. I believe it helps when you are having a conversation with someone as it provides you with many topics to choose from. It’s also a great way to escape into a different world and possibly reduce some stress in your life.
The benefits of reading
There are many great benefits from reading as well. It can provide mental stimulation which can slow down Dementia or Alzheimer’s. I’d say that’s a pretty good incentive to read. What a productive way to improve your memory. Think about all the characters that take part in a book, the location, ambitions, plots and sub plots. So many things to think about and remember. Great things to talk about when you are describing the book you are reading.
What about your writing skills. Do you think they could improve from reading? Of course! You are improving your vocabulary and learning how to paint a picture with your words as they say. I have found that many people who like to read also like to write. Even if it is letters, poetry, or journaling. So much fun.
I have 3 books I am ready to read. I need to decide which one to start with first. They are all so different in topics and all I am interested to get started on. I recently lost a brother and a friend recommended the book Dying To Be Me. Someone else recommended The Telomere Effect. Always intrigues me to learn new and interesting ways people are learning to live their lives better. The third is Breathe. Since I love and teach Yoga this sounds like another great book to learn more tips for myself and to share with my students to help improve their relaxation habits.
As a result, I can’t wait to get started and look forward to giving you my review of each of these books.
What’s on your nightstand? I would love to hear what you are interested in reading.
