Black Rice Crackers

Black Rice Crackers Anytime

I received a package for Laiki Crackers, well actually has several varieties in the box. I have not seen these before around here and was glad to have something new to try. Since I am gluten free, dairy free, egg free and nut free it is challenging to find a good cracker. I have a couple of brands that I like but this was a nice surprise.  Black Rice Crackers.  Hmmm wonder if they will be worth it?

I don’t know about you but I find most GF crackers crumble easily or get mushy as soon as it lands in your mouth or you put anything on it Ugh! and don’t provide that nice crunch I always enjoy with a cracker. Yes I like crunchy snacks.

The crackers came in Black Rice with Sea Salt, Black Rice with Vegan Cheddar, and Red Rice with Sea Salt. Such a nice change from the usual White or Brown Rice Gluten Free crackers I usually see.

Getting ready to try this thing

Did you know that Black Rice was once reserved only for royalty and is an ancient wholegrain superfood and Red Rice is mentioned in Ayurveda as a superfood? Fascinating.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the texture and taste. The texture has a nice crunch to it. Reminded me of a Triscuit type texture if you ever have eaten those before. I ate them back before I knew that was a no-no. LOL!

The Vegan Cheddar actually reminded me of cheddar cheese. All of the crackers have a nice salty taste but not overwhelming. I paired them with salads to use as a crouton, dipped in hummus (cause I just love hummus so it was a must to try), eaten them plain and paired with fruit. Definitely worth eating and I will buy them for sure!

Laiki Rice Crackers, per the company website, are made with “Sustainably sourced palm fruit oil, sea salt, a plant based vegan cheddar seasoning, pepper seasoning from the south-east asian black peppers and, of course, red or black rice depending on the variety picked. They are gluten-free, allergy friendly from the top 8 allergens and Kosher certified.” Pretty impressive.

I did find out they are sold at most Whole Foods so I will be sure to look for them next time I go there. You can also buy them online.

If you are looking for a new option in a cracker, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Happy Crunching!
