6 Tips for a Gluten Free Kitchen

Gluten Free Kitchen

Some sound advice for keeping a gluten free kitchen.  Here are 6 tips for a Gluten Free Kitchen.

I don’t know about you but my household contains both gluten free and glutenous people. Yep, it’s true, sometimes you just can’t convert your loved ones.   It can be challenging trying to keep these two separated but have faith, it can be done. I remember when I first went gluten free I did not know what I was doing. So many things to learn.  Trying to educate the family, well that was a mission of its own. LOL.

I would like to share a few tips with you though that have helped me along the way.

  1. Divide your kitchen up into areas where you store your gluten free foods.  I use a separate cabinet for my items.  This is a great way to keep those unwanted fingers away from the food.
  2. Have a separate section for pots and pans designated for gluten free cooking only.  I know this can be a challenge, but it is well worth it.  Food items tend to find a way into those little crevices and your food could be exposed.
  3. Place cooking utensils designated for gluten free cooking in your gluten free pantry section or on a separate part of the counter.  The concern here is that if you are not the one cooking someone may use your items and risk exposing you to gluten.
  4. Keep a separate sponge or towel for cleaning.  This is not something people tend to think of yet it is just as important.
  5. When cooking in the oven always cook your gluten free items first. This will help eliminate the air-born particles from landing on your food.
  6. Always wipe down countertops before placing your food on it.  I know this is common sense yet the person fixing their food before you may have forgotten to wipe down the counter top and the next thing you know you’ve been exposed.

I hope these items help you enjoy a healthier kitchen and a safe tummy. The last thing anyone wants it to be unexpectedly exposed to gluten, feeling like crap and possibly running to bathroom.  Happy Cooking!
