When you live with a chronic illness I believe that you tend to really try living life with purpose. Every day is a gift. Each day I wake up on this side of the earth is a good day. Sure some days are way more challenging than others, but yet still a gift.
Purpose is not always obvious. Many times it feels like we just float through the day with our regular routine. We don’t really even think about what our purpose is for the day and into the future. It’s good to remember that the key to purpose is using our strengths to serve others. In other words, it’s the “why” that drives us. This is something good to journal about. Really sit down and think of your “why”. Why do you go to work. Why do you do the work you do? Is it meaningful to you? Would you rather be doing something else? When you are doing something you enjoy it makes your life as well as those around you so much better.
I love listening to children. They have so many dreams. Do you remember when you were younger? Things seemed so much easier then. What did you dream about doing when you got older? It’s funny as children there are no preconceptions about anything. They just enjoy each day and using their imaginations, believing they can do anything, and they can. When did that go away? The thought that we could do anything we wanted and be anything we wanted. Most importantly, we can still make that happen. If you are not living your purpose, go back and remember these things.
Living life with purpose everyday is a gift Journal to discover your path
Take out your journal, or a notepad or a few sheets of paper. Don’t think, just write. Write down anything that comes to mind. Sure it will look like scribble, just a bunch of jumbled up words not making any sense. That is the point. Then let your mind clear. Look at what you wrote. Notice how you feel about what you wrote. Observe, slow down and be curious. Does anything stick out and excite you? If so circle them or write them down on a separate piece of paper. This is how you begin to narrow down what you really want. Certainly you will begin to see what your purpose is. Your purpose is constantly changing, that’s OK. We are always growing, evolving. That is the exciting part of life. Most importantly it is a journey not a destination.
This may take days, weeks, or months to really hone in on what you are looking for long term. There is no time schedule set for this. Let the journey begin and see where it takes you. There will be winding paths you will travel down. Some paths you will enjoy and some paths you will move away from. Do this frequently as life is every changing and evolving. I still love to journal and have traveled down many paths. I look forward to future adventures I will go on and explore as well.
Try it, see if this will take you on your path of living your life’s purpose. It is about starting. One cannot find their purpose if they do not even start. That is the hard part. Once you start you will burst with ideas. You will be excited about what you will come up with. I believe that when we stop learning, searching, exploring, that is when we get stuck. Where is your path taking you?
